FAQ

1. What is a 'BrumGoth'?
Lose 10 points for asking silly questions. A BrumGoth is simply a Goth who lives in or goes out in the Birmingham Goth scene. Are you a Goth? See this link. We warn you that as a group we're not terribly fond of Vampires or those not into the more mainstream Goth culture, (we're talking more into The Haunted Fishtank and the Mercat than Death Machine).
Oh and DONT call us 'trad' cos we aren't - we like varying stuff but we are pro Goth. We aren't terribly cyber.
2. You're all elitist then?
No, we have different tastes.
One of the main points of BrumGoth is that we aren't interested in being a 'club'. We are opting out. The list is laid back and relaxed, no Goth elitism or 'Gothier than thou' attitudes here.
3. When did BrumGoth start?
On May 16th 2000 BrumGoth breathed it's first breath
(and many people's kill files breathed a sigh of relief.)
4. Why did BrumGoth start?
Are you sitting comfortably? then I'll begin.
Once upon a time there was a mailing list called Contaminatii. It was a happy little list with many well known posters. One day the list got too busy and Dave (for 'twas the list owners name) said we would either have to tone it down a bit or move to another host. Contaminatii became an announcement only list and Tainted started up instead.
One day Falcon (for 'tis the new list owners name) thought it would be a good idea to increase the numbers on Tainted and lo! the list became a big wobbly thing which scared Goths with its' amount of posts, its' merchandising industry and amount of silly arguments about nothing in particular.
Some people liked it anyway and lived happily ever after, and other people got very fed up of killfiling and said 'I wish there was an alternative Goth mailing list!'. Coventry started it's own list and called it CovHeReTiCs and most CovGoths migrated to there.
Some of the remaining goffs on Tainted then said 'I wish there was an alternative mailing list just for Birmingham Goths! One kept just as informed and with a lovely Bex to admin it.' (they didn't really say that bit actually).
A list called BrumGoth reared it's head and squeaked 'that would be me then!' Members came and the list grew whilst still retaining it's original promise of
'No gimmicks, no blurb, no arguments, no arseholes, more Goth and less babble'.
A list made by the Goth people for the Goth people!

Contrary to what some may think, the three lists aren't 'rivals' but three lists meeting three different needs. See question 9!
5. Is Bex the list owner?
YES! She is the list admin too, and makes it look reasonably presentable when she feels the urge. She also wrote this FAQ. Hence the comments about her being lovely ;)
6. What is considered 'off-topic'?
BrumGoth is a light hearted list. We don't want to read about things that have absolutely nothing to do with Birmingham, its Goth community, its scene or its friends elsewhere. We don't want to read reams of babble or opinionated claptrap. We don't want to read ego trips and we don't really care what you had for tea. We don't like techie posts!! We HATE Pokemon....okay, so I hate Pokemon. We don't encourage arguing 'cause it causes upset.

We do like to hear about what you are up to, what you like, where you're going to visit etc etc.
7. So what do you talk about?!
Judging by the posts so far, topics have included: Gigs, events, parties, beer, Yahoo!Groups inability to work properly 20% of the time, sex, beer, falling over, beer, taking the piss out of each other, beer, Twister, helping new goffs on the block, running of the list and mad 'entrance exam' replies....oh and Vodka.

Sounds much like a night down the pub to me....
8. So it's not like the Freemasons then?
If you want to do the BrumGoth secret handshake in public, darlings, that's entirely up to you...
9. I've heard talk that you are rivals to Tainted!?
Well then you are wrong.
Tainted is billed as a list with Goths on it aimed at general chat. That is to say, it isn't a Goth list as such, nothing is off-topic on Tainted. It is also for the Midlands area not just Birmingham.

BrumGoth is a list built by Birmingham Goths intended specifically for their scene in the same way that CovHeretics evolved.
10. Ooo can I join?
If you want to still want to join go here!
